Tian Shan, Kyrgyzstan (June 30 - July 12, 2019) : Day 12 and Day 13 - Final Day in Bishkek and Home

A very good Tomahawk steak at Red Cow, Bishkek @ RM120 only!!!
The mandatory post office visit to send postcards home
Bishkek post office with writing tables and chairs are such conducive places to visit
While the adults preferred to starve at Almaty airport, munching on snacks as the small airport had nothing much to offer except microwaveable dinners at exorbitant prices, York Fuan went around the group for handouts. She finally collected enough coins to buy herself a cup noodle at 1650 Tenge...a whopping RM17.50 !!!

Hoping for a shorter travelling time back to Bishkek, we were really out of luck. The only good thing that came out of travelling late in the evening was a cool drive home. Again, we did the mandatory 6 hours journey from point to point with immigration and customs clearance included.

Arriving back at My Hotel close to 2 am, Claudine almost felt guilty knowing Team Singapore will have to head out to the airport in a few hours time to catch their 10.15 am flight! They were further delayed by hotel check ins and bag collections.

While Team Singapore returned to Urumqi for an overnight stay before Guangdong and Singapore, Team Malaysia had the luxury of waking up late. Their good day extended to a good breakfast and a late check out with no extra charges.

It was on this positive charge that set them out to the streets for souvenir shopping and a hearty lunch before heading home! Home was a 7.15 pm flight from Bishkek to Almaty before their connecting flight at 11.30 pm from Almaty back to KL. They finally set foot on Malaysian soil at 9.40 am, the next day!!!

Geographically, Bishkek is linked to Almaty via Route A-2 over a distance of 233 km. Chu River which flows north of Kyrgyzstan and south of Kazakhstan, forms the natural border separating the 2 countries. Korday, a border town in Kazakhstan is 25 km away from Bishkek.

Crossing the border is quite an experience. Locals have the habit of cutting queues. To prevent such bullying, one should behave like the locals. Blocking queue jumpers with elbows or legs can only go so far. Voicing our resentments and “adopting” each other with a family structure of father, mother, second wife and daughter works wonders!

Getting the passports stamped at Kyrgyzstan’s CIQ was fast. Entering Kazakhstan was tougher with the minibus requiring close to an hour’s check. Once through, another short wait is required for insurance registration.
