Sufferfest Mae Hong Son (24 Nov to 11 Dec 2025) : Day 4 - Pai, rest day

On a beach chair outside our bungalow. There's a hammock too!

Ban Nam Hoo Bungalows was introduced to us by our Chief Alvin. He forewarned us the place does not come with air-conditioning. As a person living in the Equator, the thought is horrifying until Chief interjects that air conditioning is not needed in winter!

Without air conditioning, Ban Nam Hoo turned out to be unbearably cold. The bungalows were built with a lot of vents which allowed air to come in. One such vent was strategically located at the bed head. In the middle of the night, Claudine ran her fingers through her hair and could feel it freezer cold!

Cycling out for breakfast at 8 am

On our way to town, we passed by Pai Hospital. Vt and Claudine could not resist stepping in to check out the name plaque mentioned by Dr Ugrid. His name, in Thai is at the top of the list. He was the first doctor and hospital director from 1979 to 1985. We can't be more proud of him!

On our way back to our accommodation, we passed by Pai Airport

After the airport, we turned left to village road, 3065 @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/twaepzuSAJsxxKc68

Bull and cows

A day before our arrival in Pai, Jack Lew had recommended us to try their "Tiger" peanuts. He said he regretted not buying more as they are only found in the mountains and none in Chiang Mai.

Look at the stripes! They really look like tiger stripes

These are also tiger peanuts but different way of roasting which does not bring out the colour of the peanuts

Thrilled to find a cottage industry by Route 1095, which is by the junction to our accommodation @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/u2Hk8XT6nShyWfK17

The usherer at the gate will try to get you to go up the stairs of the Great Wall of China for photography purposes. There's a wall maintenance fee to pay. However, it is FREE to walk the gardens around the village

This Chinese village is borne out of the Chinese civil war in 1949. Most of them are Yunnanese descendants of Kuomintang party who fled the country after the People's Liberation Army took over. In a 2022 census, it was reported that there are around 200,000 Chinese living in 108 such villages in Thailand
