Taking the shortcut to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu
Morning at Jongkham View. The pavillion with a simple breakfast spread is located right in front of our chalets
Complimentary breakfast
Complimentary breakfast
We went through the small little door to get to the lakeside
Behind the fence is our chalet
Another view of the lakeside
The playground section of the lakeside is secured by 2 gates, with one on each end. Thus to get out, we had to go through another gate which is manned by the municipal council.
On Singha-nat Barm Rung Rd, we discovered the most delicious traditional snacks wrapped in banana leaf @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/WDqvcKf8PUBsGiDG6
Looks like Malaysian nyonya kueh
These looks like kueh kochi santan but with different stuffings
These looks like pulut panggang but again different stuffings. Most of the stuffings are made out of banana, sweet potatoes and mung beans.
Still on Singha-nat Barm Rung Rd but at the other entrance to the market
Side lane leading to the market
These baskets with the bamboo pole will be secured to the motorcycle's rear saddle
You can find almost anything in this market from tailoring and clothes alterations to food and vegetables.
Joining the locals for breakfast at the market
We had this popular gooey noodle and tofu
The white tofu is made from soy bean while the yellow tofu is made from split bean
Next to the market is Wat Hua Wiang
Built in 1863 in Burmese architecture, this is the 2nd oldest temple in Mae Hong Son.
Another teak building in the temple complex
The white stupa is a later addition in the temple complex
Sweeping view of Wat Hua Wiang
At Wat Phra Non which is connected to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu via a long staircase.
Ready to run up the stairs!
The cut and dried grass here should have warned us that the stairs to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is no longer in use...
...and so we begin!
Initially wide, the steps soon becomes narrower!
At the midway point where the stairs ended and there were no clear signs of a continuing path
A Buddha at the midway point
View from the midway point
As it was only another 150m to the temple, we decided to brave the climb. Here's saying goodbye to Mindy and Jasmine who decided to return to the hotel.
It was a matter of bush bashing as we could not see any clear visible trail
Halfway up, we decided to keep right as indicated by Google Maps!
What a relief, we are out of the jungle! View of where we had just come from...
...another view of where we are heading to!
At the end of the pavement is a short series of stairs to get to the road
The road ends at the carpark. We followed the another set of stairs which leads to the temple
Finally, the end is near!
Mission accomplished!
Bells
There are 2 approaches to Mae Hong Son : 1. Chiang Mai to Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son = 1824 curves 2. Chiang Mai to Pai to Mae Hong Son = 2224 curves
Mae Hong Son airport

Bai Fern restaurant @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/eyMNi9bk8qCMQuJh7
Tea break at Alawaa Cafe @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/4KWpXubRA1q2oHaMA Their coffee was good but their bagel was only decent
