Supper before bedtime |
After a night of merriment, Alice, Prue and Ben left us. The trio were
escorted safely to Yuli Station by Siew Ling, KC and Alvin for their onward departures.
While they left us feeling blue, we were looking forward to another addition to
LTF Spring Ride. Undisputedly LTF's favourite, news of Ying Chang's arrival
raised our spirits. He was like a brother, mentor and guardian to many of us.
It was close noon to when we started our ride to Chishang. A mere 30 km ride
but one that saw George crippled by several punctures. Despite coming to Taiwan
with 5 inner tubes, he ended up recycling and patching every single one!
Continuing on from where we left off yesterday, Yufu Bike Lane led us
through green fields of paddy. Ending at the old and abandoned Dongli train
station, the shopkeepers were seemingly disappointed we did not stop to browse!

Another round of hills |

Beautiful countryside |
|
Village stop |
Midway to Chishang, we split into 2 groups. Chief Alvin led us through a
quiet countryside road that ran past some rolling hills and aboriginal
villages. Meanwhile, Papa Mike's team preferred the highway which was
relatively flat.
Regrouping at Chishang's beautiful train station later, we headed for lunch
at Wu Tao Chishang Lunch Box Cultural History Museum. A train and rail themed fast food restaurant, food is served in paper lunch boxes. A musuem sits above the restaurant whilst a snack and souvenier shop shares the same open floor, below.
That night, after dining over hot pots, we
waited out the time for Ying Chang's arrival. It was a red eye schedule and we
weren't very sure if he had managed to catch the connecting train as he had
travelled without a data plan.
With great anticipation, we screened through
every passengers that passed through the turnstiles…
It felt almost like The Royal Ascot. We waited
with bated breath. Our stakes were high on the winning horse. The only
difference was the “horses” were coming through slowly!!!
After more than 3 trains that passed by…our
Hero came through! Hurrah!!!
Besides all the joy, there were tears. It was
an amazing get together.
